Frequently Asked Questions

There is no such thing as a digital TV aerial. There are wideband aerials and grouped aerials and both are capable of receiving Freeview TV signals. However grouped aerials will only pick up a narrow band of signal and if the Freeview signal is being broadcast outside this range then a wideband aerial will be required.

Unlike an analogue signal that will give a picture even when the signal is poor, even though it might look like you are watching TV through a snow storm, a digital picture will either work or it won’t and there isn’t much in between. There will either be a good picture or it will pixelate and break up into blocks. Too much signal can be as bad as too little and there is an acceptable range of signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that is required for a good reliable picture.

The aerial can be put in a loft providing that the property is in a good signal area. However the interference caused by the roof and/or gable end can result in a poor quality signal and using an amplifier will only result in amplifying the poor signal as well as the good.

If you are getting pixelation or are missing some TV channels then you may need a new aerial. This will involve removing the old aerial and replacing it with an aerial capable of receiving all the Freeview channels in your area. This may include changing the bracket pole and cable to ensure that the signal gives reliable viewing and the installation is secure to your property. The aerial system may however only have a minor fault and Serviset will check your system for defects before proceeding with a full installation.

Freesat is an alternative system to Freeview which uses a satellite dish instead of a standard Freeview aerial.

Using the same mini dish as Sky, Freesat currently provides over 110 TV channels and 35 Radio channels including some in HD.

If you have had sky in your property and wish to switch to Freesat then getting Freesat is just a case of getting a Freesat receiver and plugging it in to your existing satellite cables.

If you don’t have an existing satellite dish then you will need a mini dish fitting to your property and the cables connected from the dish to the satellite receiver.

Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) radio is a new way of receiving radio station broadcasts.

It allows access to radio stations at higher quality than FM or AM. To listen to DAB radio you will need a DAB radio and depending on the signal levels in your area a dedicated DAB aerial installing. The aerial is normally mounted alongside your TV aerial for maximum signal quality.

What customers say about us

Great job, thanks for the prompt call out…

I found serviset to be very professional / helpful and came out to my job in a speedy time frame. I would recommend them without hesitation to all.

Can’t fault Serviset, called this morning and by lunchtime my TV aerial was sorted. Would highly recommended them, thank you.

First class service from this local business. Will definitely
recommend him to my friends and contacts.

Starting with my morning phone enquiry, they visited same day, giving a price for renewing our broken aerial and cable. The job was done on the same visit and now we have telly back in the kitchen and bedroom again, on Freeview.

Excellent, fast and friendly for service at a good price!

No better place to get the TV reception and picture quality you deserve
